Officially opened in Fontvieille on 16 June by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the Monaco National Archives now have a website: archives-nationales.gouv.mc

This online portal offers access to a selection of digital historical documents, virtual exhibitions, themed selections and numerous resources relating to the Principality’s history and archives.

An open door to the past

The Monaco National Archives were created to preserve archives of public interest and they hold documents dating back to the eighteenth century. Now accessible online, these archives enable pupils, teachers and history enthusiasts to:

  • Learn about important events in Monegasque history, particularly the country’s modern history
  • Consult rare and often unpublished documents
  • Enhance educational projects based around memory, citizenship and written heritage

Two virtual exhibitions and editorial content suitable for pupils

The website already offers a selection of content that is closely linked to the school curriculum. In addition to the documents featured on the homepage and some themed selections, it features the exhibition Monaco Liberated! 3 September – 28 December 1944, put together to coincide with the commemorations of the eightieth anniversary of the Liberation of Monaco. The content can be used to prepare lessons.
